NGC 6193 facts for kids
NGC 6193 is a fascinating group of stars known as an open cluster. It contains 27 stars and is located in the constellation of Ara. Ara is a pattern of stars you can see in the night sky. This cluster is incredibly far away, about 3,765 light-years from Earth. If you have a good view, you might even be able to spot it without a telescope!
NGC 6193 is right in the middle of something called the Ara OB1 association. This cluster sends out a lot of energy. This energy lights up the nearby cloud of gas and dust known as the NGC 6188 nebula.
Stars in the Cluster
At the very heart of NGC 6193, you'll find some truly amazing stars. There are two groups of stars that are very close together. These are called O-class multiple star systems. There's also a star that is likely a binary B0 giant.
These stars are incredibly hot and huge. They are part of a larger group of stars known as HD 150136. Within this system, there are four main stars. Each of these stars is much bigger than our Sun. They can be 36 to 63 times more massive than the Sun. They are also much hotter, about 6 to 10 times hotter than the Sun. Plus, they shine incredibly brightly, giving off more than 10,000 times the light of our Sun!
