The title was created on June 18, 2018. This happened during the first night of the 2018 United Kingdom Championship Tournament. WWE announced that an 8-woman tournament would take place. This tournament would decide the very first NXT UK Women's Champion.
Rhea Ripley won this first tournament. She beat Toni Storm in the final match to become the first champion. Later, Toni Storm defeated Rhea Ripley at an event called NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool. This made Toni Storm the champion at that time.
