The Nagoya University of Foreign Studies (名古屋外国語大学 (Nagoya gaikokugo daigaku)) is a private university in Nisshin, Aichi, Japan. It started in 1988. People in Japan often call it Nagoya Gaidai (名古屋外大). Its short English name is NUFS.

What is NUFS?
A Global Learning Place
Nagoya University of Foreign Studies (NUFS) is special. It is the only university in central Japan that focuses on international studies and foreign languages. Its goal is to help students learn about the world. They want students to have a truly global view.
How Students Learn
NUFS uses a special way of teaching. It combines language learning, general education, and specific subject studies. They teach language classes in small groups. There are only four students with a native speaker teacher. This helps students become really good at new languages.

History of NUFS
NUFS has grown a lot since it started. Here are some important dates:
- 1988: The university first opened. It had departments for British and American Studies, French Studies, and Chinese Studies.
- 1994: A new school for Global Business and Economics was added.
- 1997: The Graduate School of International Studies began. This is for students who want to study more after their first degree.
- 1999: They started a doctoral program. This is the highest level of university study. A new Department of Japanese Studies also opened.
- 2001: The Japanese Language Institute was created. It helps people learn Japanese.
- 2004: The School of Contemporary International Studies opened. It included departments like English and Contemporary Society.
- 2008: A new Department of English Language Teaching was added.
- 2013: The Department of Liberal Arts and Global Studies was established.
- 2015: The Department of World Liberal Arts was created.
- 2017: The School of Global Governance and Collaboration opened.
- 2019: The School of World Liberal Arts was established. It includes departments for World Liberal Arts and International Japanese Studies.
