Nahoum & Sons Pvt. Limited is a very old and famous bakery shop in Kolkata, India. It is one of the oldest shops in the city still owned by a Jewish family. Many people in Kolkata love their delicious cakes and pastries, especially during Christmas. Even famous people in India have enjoyed treats from this bakery!

History of Nahoum & Sons

Nahoum Israel Mordecai, a Baghdadi Jew, started this bakery. He opened the shop in 1902. This means Nahoum & Sons has been baking for 123 years! The bakery first opened 26 years after the famous New Market was built in Kolkata.

Family Ownership Through the Years

Fourteen years after starting, Nahoum Israel Mordecai moved the shop to its current spot. Later, his son Elias took over the business. After Elias passed away in 1964, his son David Nahoum became the manager. David's brothers, Norman and Solomon, also helped run the shop at different times. When David passed away in 2013, his brother Issac continued the family legacy. The bakery is still open and serving customers today!
