About Najat El Hachmi's Life
Najat El Hachmi was born in a place called Beni Sidel in Morocco. When she was eight years old, her family moved to Catalonia, Spain. She studied Arabic literature at the University of Barcelona. Today, she lives in Granollers, Spain. She became a Spanish citizen in 2006.
Najat started writing when she was only twelve years old. At first, it was just for fun. Later, writing became a way for her to share her thoughts. It also helped her understand her own life better. She explores what it means to belong to two different cultures.
Najat El Hachmi's Writing Career
Najat El Hachmi's first book was called Jo també sóc catalana (which means "I am also Catalan"). This book came out in 2004. It was about her own life story. It explored how she grew to feel like she belonged in her new country.
In 2008, she won a very important award for Catalan books. It was the Ramon Llull Award. She won it for her novel called L'últim patriarca (The Last Patriarch). This novel tells the story of a Moroccan person who moves to Spain. The story shows how a father, who sometimes acts like a boss, has problems with his daughter. She wants to live by modern rules, different from the old traditions.
