Nam-Hai Chua (born April 8, 1944) is a famous botanist from Singapore. A botanist is a scientist who studies plants. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society, which means he is part of a very old and respected group of top scientists in the world. He used to be a special professor at Rockefeller University in the United States. Now, he is a leader at the Temasek Life Science Laboratory in Singapore.

Life and Studies

Nam-Hai Chua studied at the National University of Singapore to get his first degree. After that, he went to Harvard University in the United States. There, he earned two more advanced degrees, including his Ph.D. in 1969. A Ph.D. is one of the highest degrees you can get in a specific subject.

After finishing his studies, Professor Chua taught at the University of Singapore Medical School for a few years. In 1973, he joined Rockefeller University, a famous research center. He worked there for a long time, doing important research on plants, until he retired from the university. In 2016, he moved back to Singapore.
