Mary Namugenyi Kiwanuka, also known as "Nam," is a well-known journalist and television personality. She was born Namugenyi Kiwanuka in Uganda and later became a Canadian citizen.
Moving to Canada
Mary and her family moved to Canada in 1983. They left Uganda because of a civil war happening in their home country. When she arrived in Canada, she was given the name Mary.
Her Career in Television
Mary Kiwanuka has had an exciting career in television. From 1999 to 2003, she worked as a VJ for MuchMusic. A VJ, or video jockey, introduces music videos and talks about music on TV.
After her time at MuchMusic, Mary moved into sports broadcasting. She hosted basketball and football shows on Sportsnet. One of her popular shows was NBA XL, which focused on professional basketball.
As of 2025, Mary works as a reporter and sometimes fills in as an anchor for TVOntario. She is part of their newsmagazine series called The Agenda.
Helping Others
Mary Kiwanuka also believes in helping people around the world. She has volunteered her time with several important organizations. These include War Child Canada, which helps children in war-affected areas. She has also worked with Journalists for Human Rights and the Canadian Red Cross, which provides humanitarian aid.
