History of Nampa Gateway Center
Opening and Early Years
Nampa Gateway Center first opened its doors on August 3, 2007. One of the first big stores to open was J. C. Penney. This was a special event because J. C. Penney had not been in Nampa for 19 years! The new center was an important part of making Nampa's downtown area better.
In January 2008, a sports store called Sports Authority decided to move. They closed their old store near Karcher Mall. Then, they built a new, bigger store at Nampa Gateway Center. This new store was about 35,000 square feet.
New Stores and Changes
More big changes happened in August 2008. The department store Macy's announced it would also move from Karcher Mall. Macy's planned to open a new store at Nampa Gateway Center in late 2009.
Sports Authority opened its new store in September 2009. Macy's followed, opening its doors in October 2009. Also in 2009, a gym called Idaho Athletic Club opened a branch here. In November 2010, Nampa got its second Edwards Cinemas movie theater at the center.
Recent Updates and Ownership
In January 2016, Sports Authority closed its store at the center. But new plans were approved in July 2016 for a WinCo Foods grocery store. WinCo Foods opened its doors in early 2017.
However, in January 2017, Macy's announced it would close its store later that year. The Macy's store closed in April 2017. Later in 2017, the shopping center was sold. A company called SITE Centers sold it to the current owner, RCG Ventures.
