Nana Jorjadze (Georgian: ნანა ჯორჯაძე) is a talented Georgian film director, screenwriter, and actress. She was born on August 24, 1948. Her amazing work has won many awards, including a nomination for an Academy Award!

Early Life and Education

Nana Jorjadze grew up in Tbilisi, a city in Georgia. She started her education in music, graduating from a local music school in 1966.

After that, she explored her creative side in a different way. She studied architecture at the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts, finishing her studies there in 1972. She even worked as an architect for a few years.

Later, Nana decided to follow her passion for storytelling. She enrolled in the Tbilisi State Theatre Institute and completed her studies there in 1980. This training helped her become the filmmaker she is today.

Beginning Her Film Career

Nana Jorjadze started her journey in film as an actress. Her first acting role was in the movie Some Interviews on Personal Matters in 1977.

Just two years later, in 1979, she made her debut as a director with a film called A Journey to Sopot. This was the start of her successful career behind the camera.

Major Success and Awards

Nana Jorjadze's film Robinsonada or My English Grandfather was a huge success in 1987. This movie helped her become well-known around the world.

It won the Caméra d'Or award at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival. This award is given to the best first feature film shown at the festival. The movie was loved by both critics and audiences.

In the early 1990s, Nana moved to France. There, she directed several more films. One of her most famous movies is A Chef in Love, released in 1996. This film made history by becoming the first, and so far the only, Georgian film to be nominated for an Academy Award.

Nana Jorjadze is married to Irakli Kvirikadze, who is also a Georgian writer and director.
