Naoji Ito (伊藤 直司, Itō Naoji, born July 1, 1959) is a former Japanese football player. He was a midfielder who played for several clubs in Japan. He also played for the Japan national team.

Naoji Ito was born in Mie Prefecture, Japan, on July 1, 1959. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career.

Time at Honda FC

In 1978, Naoji Ito joined Honda. This club was part of the Japan Soccer League Division 2 at the time. In 1980, his team played very well. They won the championship in Division 2. This victory meant that Honda FC was promoted to Division 1, which is the top league. Naoji Ito continued to play for Honda FC in Division 1. In the 1985-86 season, the team achieved a good result, finishing in third place. Naoji Ito left Honda FC at the end of that season.

Later Career

After leaving Honda FC, Naoji Ito joined another team called PJM Futures in 1988. He played for PJM Futures for several years. Naoji Ito decided to retire from playing professional football in 1993.

Playing for Japan

Naoji Ito also had the chance to play for his country. He was selected to join the Japan national team.

First International Match

His first game for the national team was on June 19, 1981. In this match, Japan played against the Malaysia national team. This was his only appearance for the Japan national team.
