Narcisa Freixas i Cruells (born December 13, 1859 – died December 20, 1926) was a talented artist from Catalonia, Spain. She was a sculptor, painter, and especially a composer. She is best known for her beautiful songs, particularly those written for children.

A Life in Music

Narcisa Freixas was born in Sabadell, a city near Barcelona. Her father was Pere Freixas Sabater. Narcisa first studied painting and sculpture with Modest Urgell. However, she soon found her true passion in music. She began to study piano with a famous teacher, Juan Bautista Pujol.

After the year 1900, Freixas started publishing collections of Catalan songs. She also wrote many nursery rhymes. She worked hard to help improve music education for school children in Barcelona. Her efforts made music more accessible and fun for young learners. She passed away in Barcelona in 1926.

Her Musical Works

Narcisa Freixas wrote music for both voices and instruments. She became very famous for her children's songs. Her music often captured the spirit of Catalan culture and everyday life.

A special collection of her children's songs was published in Spanish in 1927. It was titled Cancons D'Infants, which means "Children's Songs."
