Nashville began its story along the Iowa Midland Railway. This railway was very important for connecting communities. It helped them grow and transport goods. By the year 1910, Nashville was a busy little place. It had three general stores where people could buy everyday items. There was also a blacksmith and repair shop, which was essential for fixing tools and wagons. A church served as a central gathering place for the community.

The community had its own post office. It operated for many years, from 1871 until 1935. An early settler gave Nashville its name. He chose it to honor his original hometown, which was Nashville, Tennessee.

Over the years, Nashville's population changed. In 1902, about 54 people lived there. By 1925, the population grew to 100 residents. Later, in 1940, the population was recorded as 55 people.
