Who is Nasta Palazhanka?

Nasta Palazhanka is known for her work with the Malady Front, also called the Young Front. This is a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Belarus. An NGO is a group that works independently from the government to help people or causes. By 2011, Nasta was the Deputy Chairperson of this group.

Early Activism

Nasta started her journey as an activist at a young age. She believed strongly in freedom and human rights in Belarus. Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world. Nasta spoke up for these rights, even when it was difficult or dangerous. She faced challenges like threats and being held in prison because of her peaceful activities.

Standing Up for Rights

In 2011, Nasta Palazhanka was recognized for her courage. She received the International Women of Courage Award. This special award is given to women around the world who show amazing bravery and leadership in fighting for human rights and empowering others. Even though she won this important award, she could not attend the ceremony herself.

Family and Continued Work

Nasta Palazhanka married another activist from the Young Front, Zmitser Dashkevich. They got married in December 2012. Nasta visited Zmitser in prison, where they had their wedding. This shows her strong commitment to her partner and her cause.

In July 2022, Nasta and Zmitser Dashkevich faced legal action. This was because they took part in public demonstrations that happened in Belarus during 2020 and 2021. They continued to stand up for what they believed was right.
