Early Life and Education

Nathan Ausubel was born in a place called Leżajsk, in Galicia, which was part of Austria-Hungary at the time. He was one of eight children in his family. When he was just four years old, in 1902, his family moved to the United States. They settled in Brooklyn, a part of New York City. Later, Nathan went to Columbia University to study.

Serving in World War I

During World War I, Nathan Ausubel joined the Jewish Legion. This was a group of Jewish soldiers who fought alongside the British army. He was part of the 39th Battalion. Nathan fought in battles in the Jordan Valley, a region in the Middle East.

Family Life

Nathan Ausubel was married twice. His second wife was Marynn Ausubel, and they stayed together until she passed away in 1980. They had one daughter named Ethel Ausubel Frimmet. Nathan also had a nephew, David P. Ausubel, who became a famous professor. David was known for his work in education and psychology.
