Finally, in 1998, it officially became known as INEC. INEC did its very first big count (called a census) in 1864. The most recent one was in June 2011. That was the 10th time they counted the population and the 6th time they counted homes!
What is a Census?
A census is like a giant survey where the government counts every single person and home in the country. It helps leaders understand how many people live in different areas, what their homes are like, and other important details. This information helps the government make good decisions about schools, hospitals, roads, and other things people need.
