Accomac Historic District

The Accomac Historic District is a special area in the town of Accomac. It was added to the National Register in 1982. This district includes many old buildings that show what the town looked like long ago.

Arbuckle Place

Arbuckle Place is located near Assawoman. It was recognized in 1986. This site helps us understand how people lived and worked in this part of Virginia many years ago.

Assateague Beach Coast Guard Station

Near Chincoteague, you'll find the Assateague Beach Coast Guard Station. This station, added in 2015, played an important role in keeping the coast safe. It's located within the beautiful Assateague Island National Seashore.

Assateague Lighthouse

The Assateague Lighthouse is a famous landmark south of Chincoteague, at the end of Assateague Island. It was listed in 1973. Lighthouses like this one were vital for guiding ships safely along the coast.

Bank Building (Accomac)

The old Bank Building in Accomac, located on Courthouse Avenue, was added to the list in 1974. This building shows us what banks looked like in the past and how they served the community.

Bowman's Folly, near Accomac, became a historic place in 1969. It's an interesting old property that tells us about the early settlers and their homes in the area.

Debtors' Prison (Accomac)

Hopkins and Brother Store

The Hopkins and Brother Store in Onancock was established in 1842 and listed in 1969. This old store was more than just a place to buy things; it also served as a bank and a meeting spot for the community. Today, it's cared for by a preservation group.

The Locustville Academy in Locustville was recognized in 2016. Academies like this were important for education before public schools were common everywhere.

Kerr Place

Kerr Place in Onancock is a beautiful building constructed between 1799 and 1802. It was listed in 1970. This home, built in the Federal architecture style, is now a museum and the main office for the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society.

The Onancock Historic District is a large area in Onancock that was listed in 1992. It includes many streets and buildings that show the town's long history and unique character.

Pitts Neck, located west of New Church, was added to the list in 1976. This property offers insights into the agricultural and rural history of Accomack County.

Pocomoke Farm in Sanford was listed in 2007. It is now known as Makemie Monument Park, honoring Francis Makemie, an important figure in American Presbyterianism.

The Tangier Island Historic District covers most of Tangier Island and was listed in 2014. Tangier Island is a unique community in the Chesapeake Bay with a rich history and a distinctive way of life.

Wharton Place near Mappsville was recognized in 1972. It's another historic property that contributes to the understanding of the region's past.

Former Listing

Sometimes, a historic place might be removed from the National Register. This happened with Corbin Hall near Horntown. It was listed in 1972 but removed in 2005 because it was sadly destroyed by fire in 2000.
