Brighton's Historic Buildings

Brighton is a city in Adams County with several important historic listings.

Adams County Courthouse

The Adams County Courthouse is located at 22 S. 4th Ave. in Brighton. It was added to the National Register on October 4, 2006. This building has been a key part of the county's government and history for many years.

Brighton High School

The old Brighton High School building, found at 830 E. Bridge St., became a historic place on January 23, 1998. It served as an important learning center for students in Brighton for a long time.

Colorado Sanitary Canning Factory

The Colorado Sanitary Canning Factory is at 224 N. Main St. in Brighton. It was listed on March 15, 2016. This factory played a role in the local economy, likely processing food from the surrounding farms.

Bromley Farm-Koizuma Hishinuma Farm

The Bromley Farm-Koizuma Hishinuma Farm is a historic district located at 15820 E. 152nd Ave. It was added to the list on August 16, 2007. This site represents the agricultural history of the area and the contributions of different farming families.

Metzger Farm

Union High School

The Union High School building at 3455 W. 72nd Ave. was added to the list on January 14, 2000. Like Brighton High School, this building played a big part in the education of local youth.

Westminster University (Westminster Castle)

The impressive Westminster University building, also known as Westminster Castle, is at 3455 W. 83rd Ave. It was listed on August 10, 1979. This red sandstone building was designed by famous architects and was originally meant to be a university. It's a very recognizable landmark in the area.

Historic Places in Aurora

Aurora, a large city, also has some historic homes in Adams County.

Granville Fuller House

The Granville Fuller House is at 2027 Galena St. in Aurora. It was added to the National Register on May 1, 2012. This house is a piece of Aurora's residential history.

M.J. Lavina Robidoux House

Another historic home in Aurora is the M.J. Lavina Robidoux House at 1615 Galena St. It was listed on September 15, 2011.

Blanche A. Wilson House

The Blanche A. Wilson House is located at 1671 Galena St. in Aurora. It joined the list on November 7, 1996. These houses show us what homes were like in Aurora's past.

Brannan Sand and Gravel Pit No. 8-Lake Sangraco Boathouse Complex

This unique site is located off Lowell Boulevard south of 62nd Ave. in Berkley. It was added to the list on August 16, 2011. It shows how industries and recreation developed in the area.

Eastlake Farmers Co-Operative Elevator Company

The Eastlake Farmers Co-Operative Elevator Company is at 126th Ave and Claude Ct. in Thornton. It became a historic site on May 17, 2010. Grain elevators were very important for farmers to store and sell their crops.

Engelbrecht Farm

The Engelbrecht Farm is located at 2024 Strasburg Rd. in Strasburg. It was listed on December 10, 2014. This farm helps preserve the agricultural heritage of the eastern part of Adams County.

Riverside Cemetery

Riverside Cemetery is a historic district at 5201 Brighton Boulevard in Commerce City. It was added to the National Register on October 28, 1994. Part of this cemetery also extends into Denver. Cemeteries can be historic because of the people buried there or their unique design.

Thede Farmhouse

The Thede Farmhouse is at 3190 W. 112th Ave. in Northglenn. It was listed on January 30, 1998. This farmhouse is another example of the historic homes and farms that shaped the region.

Former Listing

Sometimes, a place that was once on the National Register of Historic Places is removed. This can happen for different reasons, like if the building is destroyed or changed too much.

David Wolpert House

The David Wolpert House at 9190 River Dale Rd. in Thornton was listed on February 27, 1975. However, it was removed from the list on January 1, 1999, because it was sadly destroyed by fire in 1976.
