The first historic place we'll talk about is the Moore Haven Downtown Historic District. This isn't just one building; it's a whole area in the city of Moore Haven! It includes parts of Avenue J, First Street, and Lone Cypress Park.

This district was added to the National Register on October 12, 1995. It's important because it shows what a downtown area looked like and how it functioned many years ago. Walking through this district is like taking a step back in time to see the heart of Moore Haven's early days.

Moore Haven Residential Historic District

Right next to the downtown area, you'll find the Moore Haven Residential Historic District. This district covers a larger area, roughly bounded by Avenue J to Avenue M and 1st to 5th Streets. It's a collection of historic homes and buildings where people lived.

This residential district joined the National Register on June 26, 1998. It helps us understand how communities grew and how homes were built in the past. It's a great example of the types of houses and neighborhoods that were common in Glades County a long time ago.

The Red Barn

Our third historic spot is known simply as the Red Barn. This unique building is located about three miles west of County Road 721 on County Road 721A, near Okeechobee.

The Red Barn was added to the National Register on December 24, 2008. While it might seem like just a barn, its history and design make it a special landmark in Glades County. It stands as a reminder of the agricultural past and the way of life in this part of Florida.
