Abita Springs: A Town with History
Abita Springs is a charming town with a few historic gems.
Abita Springs Historic District
This whole area, including parts of Louisiana Highways 36, 59, and 435, became a historic district on March 12, 1982. It means many buildings here are old and important.
Abita Springs Pavilion
Found at the end of Main Street, the Abita Springs Pavilion is a beautiful old building. It was added to the list on August 19, 1975. Imagine all the events that have happened here over the years!
Longbranch Annex
This building is located at Louisiana Highway 36 and Gordon Street. It was recognized on July 21, 1983.
Slidell: Stories from the Past
Slidell also has several places that tell tales of its past.
Arcade Theater
Located at 2247-2251 Carey Street, the Arcade Theater was added to the list on August 29, 1997. This old theater likely hosted many shows and movies in its day.
Camp Salmen House
You can find this house at 35122 Camp Salmen Road. It became a historic place on April 24, 2006.
Francois Cousin House (Slidell)

New Orleans and Northeastern Railroad-New Orleans and Great Northern Railroad Depot
Also known as the Slidell Amtrak station, this old train depot at 1809 Front Street was listed on October 24, 1996. It's a reminder of how people used to travel.
Salmen Houses
Slidell is home to three Salmen family houses that are historic:
- Salmen House: At 2854 Front Street, listed on October 10, 1996.

Jay House
Also known as the "Otis House," this house faces the Tchefuncte River within Fairview-Riverside State Park. It was listed on May 29, 1998.
Madisonville Bank
The old Madisonville Bank at 400 Cedar Street was listed on December 28, 1983.
Madisonville Boarding House
This boarding house at 703 Main Street was listed on August 16, 1996. Boarding houses were like hotels where people could rent a room for a longer time.
Madisonville Town Hall
The town hall at 203 Cedar was listed on November 8, 1990. This building was important for local government.
McCaleb House
The McCaleb House at 906 Main Street was listed on June 7, 1990.
Sardy House

Tchefuncte River Range Rear Light

Saint Benedict: Abbey Buildings
Saint Benedict is home to a historic abbey.
Saint Joseph Abbey Church
The Abbey Church at 75376 River Road was listed on March 21, 2007. This is a place of worship with a long history.
Saint Joseph Abbey Refectory
Also at 75376 River Road, the Abbey Refectory (a dining hall) was listed on March 21, 2007.
Pearl River: A Store with History
Pearl River has one notable historic building.
Haaswood Store
The Haaswood Store at 62011 Louisiana Highway 1091 was listed on July 15, 2009. Old stores often served as community hubs.

Longbranch Hotel Complex
The Longbranch Hotel Complex in Abita Springs, located on Rangeline Road, was listed on June 24, 1982. However, it was removed from the list on May 3, 2016.
