National Space Development Agency facts for kids
The National Space Development Agency (NASDA) was Japan's main space agency for many years. It was also known as 宇宙開発事業団 (Uchū Kaihatsu Jigyōdan). NASDA worked on satellites and space experiments. It was active from 1969 to 2003.
What Was NASDA?
NASDA stands for the National Space Development Agency. It was Japan's main space agency for many years. NASDA was created in 1969. Its goal was to develop satellites and carry out space experiments. All of its work was for peaceful reasons.
Becoming JAXA
In 2003, NASDA joined forces with two other Japanese space groups. These were the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) and the National Aerospace Laboratory of Japan (NAL).
Together, these three groups formed a new, bigger agency. This new agency is called the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). JAXA continues the important space work that NASDA started.
Space Projects
NASDA played a big part in many space projects. For example, it helped with several projects for the International Space Station (ISS). The work on these projects continues today as part of JAXA's ongoing research.
