The National Woodenware Company Superintendent's Residence is a historic house in Hill City, Minnesota, United States. It was built in 1910. This house was where the manager, or "superintendent," of a large factory lived. The factory made wooden buckets and tubs for a company called Armour and Company. This house is special because it reminds us of a time when the factory was very important to Hill City.

A Special House with a Story

This house is not just any old house. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is recognized as a very important historical place in the United States. It was added to this special list in 1982.

The house is important for a few reasons. It shows how the town of Hill City grew. It also highlights how industry, like the woodenware factory, played a big part in the town's early history.

The National Woodenware Company

The National Woodenware Company moved to Hill City in 1910. Before that, it was located in Ithaca, Michigan. When the company came to Hill City, it bought a lot of land. In fact, it bought about one-third of all the lots in the town!

The company built homes for its many workers. Because of the factory and its employees, the population of Hill City grew very quickly. It actually tripled in size! This shows how much the company changed the town.

The Superintendent's Role

The Superintendent's Residence was home to the person in charge of the factory. This house was the most important home built by the company. It stands as a strong reminder of the National Woodenware Company. This company was the main employer and developer in Hill City during the early 1900s.
