About Natividad Barroso
Natividad Barroso was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is in the Canary Islands. She moved to Venezuela and now lives in Barquisimeto, Lara. She studied literature at the Central University of Venezuela. Later, she earned advanced degrees in folklore and comparative literature from the same university.
Helping Others Read
In 1982, Natividad Barroso created a special program called The Hour of the Resonance. This program aimed to help people in poorer areas of Barquisimeto become interested in reading and books. The program was very successful. It even received recognition from the International Reading Association, a group of experts who work to improve reading skills worldwide.
Awards and Recognition
Natividad Barroso has received several important awards for her work. In April 1999, she was given the Button to the Merit City of Barquisimeto award. This award recognized her important contributions to the culture and society of Venezuela. In November 2007, she received the Roberto Montesinos Prize of Literature for her writing in Lara state. In the same year, she was honored with the Cultural Legacy of Lara State award. This is a very special honor given to only a few people while they are still alive.
She also writes for several Venezuelan magazines that focus on culture, such as the Revista Nacional de Cultura and El Impulso. She has given many talks and organized discussions about art and culture in Venezuela.
