Neilrex, New South Wales facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Neilrex is a small rural area located in the north-western part of New South Wales, Australia. It's a quiet place, like many small communities in the countryside.

What is Neilrex?

Neilrex is known as a "bounded rural locality." This means it's a defined area in the countryside, often with farms and open spaces, rather than a busy town or city. It's part of the larger Warrumbungle Shire region.

A Look at the Railway

For many years, Neilrex had its own railway station. This station was an important part of the community from 1917 until 1974. Trains would stop here, helping people and goods travel to and from the area. Even though the station building is gone now, the railway tracks are still there.

The Gwabegar Line

The railway station in Neilrex was located on the Gwabegar railway line. This line was a key transport route for the region. Today, parts of the line are still used, especially for carrying important goods like wheat.

Wheat and Silos

Neilrex is an area where farming is important, especially growing wheat. You can still see large structures called wheat silos there. These tall buildings are used to store huge amounts of wheat after it's harvested. They keep the grain safe and dry until it's ready to be transported. There's also a "siding," which is a short railway track next to the main line. This siding allows trains to pull over and load or unload goods, like wheat from the silos.
