Netta Muskett (born in 1887) was a popular British writer. She wrote more than 60 romance novels between 1927 and 1963. She also used the pen name Anne Hill.

Her books were very popular and translated into many languages. These included Spanish, French, Portuguese, Finnish, Swedish, and Danish. Netta Muskett also helped start the Romantic Novelists' Association. She was a vice-president of this group. They even created an award in her honor for new writers, called the Netta Muskett Award. Today, it is known as the RNA New Writers Scheme.

Her Early Life and Education

Netta Rachel Hill was born in 1887 in Sevenoaks, a town in Kent, England. She went to Kent College in Folkestone. After finishing school, she became a teacher of Mathematics.

Helping During Wartime

During World War I, Netta joined the Voluntary Aid Detachment (V.A.D.). She bravely drove an ambulance in France to help people. Sadly, her brother, who was part of the Imperial Camel Corp, died in Egypt in 1916.

Later, during World War II, she served with the V.A.D. again. This time, she taught handicrafts in hospitals to British and American soldiers.

Family Life

After World War I, Netta worked as a secretary. She worked for Lord George Riddell, 1st Baron Riddell. He owned and managed a newspaper called the News of the World.

In 1925, Netta married Henry Wallace Muskett. He was a widower and already had three children. Together, Netta and Henry had one son named Peter Muskett. Peter later married Judith, and they had two children, Sarah-Jane and Jamie.

Netta Muskett passed away on May 29, 1963, in Putney, England.

Her Writing Career

Netta Muskett started publishing her novels in 1927. She continued writing until the day she died. Her very last novel, Cloudbreak, was published after her death.

In 2013, her family began publishing her novels as e-books. This was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of her passing. You can find them on Amazon Kindle.
