Nevil Shed (born April 26, 1943) is a former American basketball player. He is famous for being part of the Texas Western Miners team. This team made history by winning the national championship in 1966.

The Texas Western Miners, now known as the University of Texas at El Paso, were coached by Don Haskins. They became the first team to start an all-African American lineup in a championship game. Nevil's basketball nickname was "The Shadow." Their amazing journey was even made into a Disney movie called Glory Road in 2006. In the movie, Al Shearer played Nevil Shed.

After his college career, Nevil Shed was chosen by the Boston Celtics in the 1967 NBA draft. He was also picked by the Denver Rockets in the American Basketball Association draft that same year. Sadly, his playing career ended early due to a leg injury during a training camp game. Because of this, he never played in the NBA or other professional leagues.

Life After Playing Basketball

After his playing days, Nevil Shed became an assistant coach for his former coach, Don Haskins, at Texas Western. He later started working for the San Antonio Spurs. He is now the director of their summer training camp.

Community Involvement

Nevil Shed has lived in the San Antonio, Texas, area for over 25 years. He worked at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) as a Coordinator for Student Activities.

When he is not working at UTSA, he helps the San Antonio Spurs and gives motivational speeches. He also coaches at the San Antonio Spurs Basketball Camp. Nevil Shed has also worked as a substitute teacher at Metzger Middle School in the San Antonio/Converse area. More recently, he worked at Judson High School as a greeter and an ISS teacher.
