New Brighton A.F.C. was a soccer club from Christchurch, New Zealand. The first club started in 1924 but stopped playing eight years later. It was then started again in 1959. In 2007, the club joined with Rangers A.F.C. to create a new team called Coastal Spirit FC.

Reforming the Club
Many years later, in 1959, the club was started again. This new beginning brought fresh energy to the team. They were ready to compete in local leagues.
Rising Through the Leagues
In 1968, the team joined the second division of the Southern League. They played very well and won the league that year. This victory helped them move up to the top division.
Chatham Cup Success
The next year, 1969, was a big one for New Brighton. They had their best performance ever in the Chatham Cup. This is a famous soccer competition in New Zealand. The team made it all the way to the final match. However, they lost to Eastern Suburbs AFC from Auckland.
Winning the Championship
In 1971, New Brighton A.F.C. achieved another great success. They won the championship. This win allowed them to join the New Zealand National Soccer League. This was the highest level of soccer in the country.
Playing in the National League
The club played in the National League for six seasons. Most of this time, they were in the lower half of the standings. Their best finish was in 1974, when they came in third place. In 1977, they were moved down from the league.
