Where the Governor Lives Now

The current Governor's Residence is a beautiful house in Santa Fe. It has been the official home for New Mexico's governors since 1954. This house is where the governor works and lives with their family. It's a key part of the state's government.

Homes from the Past

Before 1954, the governor lived in a different house. This older home was in downtown Santa Fe, right next to the New Mexico State Capitol. It looked a bit like the White House, but it was painted a light tan color. This house had big gardens and even a fish pond. By 1950, the old mansion was getting very old and needed many repairs. So, the state decided to build a new one.

The Oldest Governor's Home

Even before the second home, New Mexico's governors lived in a very old building. This was during the time of Spanish colonization. Governors lived at the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe. This building was made of adobe and built way back in 1610.

Today, the Palace of the Governors is a museum and a popular place for tourists to visit. It is special because it's the oldest public building in the United States that has been used continuously. People have used it for over 400 years!
