The Soo Line Depot is a historic train station located in New Richmond, Wisconsin. A "depot" is another word for a train station. This building once served as an important stop for passengers and goods.
About the Soo Line Depot
This old train station is a cool example of history. It shows how people traveled and moved things a long time ago. The depot is found in the city of New Richmond, in the state of Wisconsin.
Early Days and Rebuilding
The first train station here was built for a company called the Wisconsin Central Railway. This company later joined with the Soo Line Railroad. The original station was very old. It even survived a big tornado in 1899! But sadly, it was later destroyed by a fire.
Because of the fire, a new, stronger station was built in 1915. This new building was designed to be fireproof. This meant it was made with materials that would not easily burn. It was a safer place for people waiting for trains.
A Historic Landmark
The Soo Line Depot was a busy place for many years. It helped people travel until 1968, when it closed. Even though trains no longer stop there, the building is still important.
In 1988, the depot was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list of places in the United States that are important to history. A year later, it was also added to Wisconsin's own list of historic places. This means the Soo Line Depot is a recognized landmark. It helps us remember the past and how trains shaped our country.
