Newburg (formerly, Newberg) was a small place in Humboldt County, California. It was located about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) east of the town of Fortuna. Newburg sat at an elevation of about 121 feet (37 meters) above sea level.
This town, first called Newberg, was built in 1884. It was created by a company named the Eel River Valley Lumber Company.

The Eel River Valley Lumber Company was important for the area. It was a company that worked with wood and timber. They built the town of Newburg to support their lumber operations.
An old newspaper from Fortuna, called the Eel Valley Advance, wrote about the company. In its May 30, 1896, edition, the newspaper described the Eel River Valley Lumber Company. It also shared information about the people who owned it.
What Happened to Newburg?
Today, the town of Newburg no longer exists. All the buildings that once stood there are gone. The large pond where logs were kept, called a mill pond, has now become farmland. Even the old railroad tracks that ran through the area have disappeared. Newburg is now just a part of history.
