Ngô Thị Chính facts for kids
Ngô Thị Chính (born in 1792 – died in 1843) was an important wife of Emperor Minh Mạng of the Nguyễn Dynasty in Vietnamese history. She was known as an imperial consort, which means she was a royal wife of the emperor.
Her Life Story
Ngô Thị Chính was born in Đăng Xương, a place near Huế. Her father was Ngô Văn Sở, who held an important legal position, and her mother was Nguyễn Thị Đích. She also had two younger brothers named Thắng and Thọ.
Lady Chính married Minh Mạng when he was still the Crown Prince, meaning he was the son chosen to become the next emperor.
In 1820, Minh Mạng became the Emperor. Lady Chính, along with his other wives, was given the title Cung tần, which means an imperial maid or consort. At that time, another important wife, Lady Hồ Thị Hoa, had passed away. Because of this, Lady Chính became the main wife and leader of the emperor's household of wives, often called the harem.
Soon after, she was given a higher title: Tam giai Hiền tần. This means she was a "Third-rank Royal Concubine." The top two ranks were empty, so she was still the highest-ranking wife in the palace. In 1836, she was promoted even further to Nhất giai Hiền phi, becoming a "First-rank Royal Concubine."
Even when she was over 40 years old, Hiền Phi gave birth to a son. This showed that the emperor still loved and cared for her, even as she grew older.
In 1843, Hiền Phi passed away at 52 years old. She was buried in Hương Thủy, Huế. Later, Emperor Thiệu Trị (who was Minh Mạng's son) gave Hiền Phi a special name after her death, called a posthumous name. Her posthumous name was Tuệ Khiết.
