About Niamh Sharkey's Life
Niamh Sharkey loved reading and drawing from a young age. She studied visual communication in Dublin, Ireland. After college, she worked as a freelance illustrator. She also worked as a designer in Dublin.
While living in Hobart, Tasmania, she illustrated her first full-color picture book. Her books have been translated into 20 different languages. This means children all over the world can enjoy her work.
In 2012, Niamh was named Laureate na nÓg. This is a special honor for an Irish children's writer or illustrator. It means she is like a champion for children's books in Ireland. She is also part of Illustrators Ireland. This group supports illustrators in Ireland. Niamh helped start Towers and Tales. This is a book festival just for children's literature.
Niamh Sharkey's Animation Work
Niamh Sharkey's book I’m a Happy Hugglewug became a TV show. It was adapted into the animated series Henry Hugglemonster. This show was made for Disney Television Animation.
She also helped create another Disney animated series. This show is called Eureka!. It first aired in 2022.
