Nicholas Romanovich Romanov, Prince of Russia (Russian: Николай Романович Романов) was a member of the House of Romanov, the former ruling family of Russia. He was born on 26 September 1922 and passed away on 15 September 2014. Nicholas Romanov was seen by some as the head of the Romanov family. He also served as the President of the Romanov Family Association, an organization for descendants of the Russian Imperial House.

His claim to be the head of the Romanov family was not accepted by everyone. This was because some people believed his parents' marriage did not follow the old rules of the Russian Imperial family.

Early Life and Family Background

Nicholas Romanovich Romanov was born in Antibes, France. His family, the Romanovs, had been the emperors and empresses of Russia for many centuries. However, after the Russian Revolution in 1917, the family had to leave Russia and live in other countries. This is why Nicholas was born in France, not Russia.

His father was Prince Roman Petrovich of Russia, and his mother was Countess Praskovia Dmitrievna Sheremeteva. Living in exile meant that Nicholas grew up outside of Russia, but he always kept a strong connection to his Russian heritage.

Life in Exile and Italy

After living in France, Nicholas Romanov later moved to Italy. He spent a large part of his life there. In Italy, he became involved in business. He was known as an Italian winemaker and a businessperson. This shows how members of royal families in exile often had to find new ways to live and work.

He married Countess Sveva della Gherardesca. Together, they had three daughters: Princess Natalia Nikolaevna, Princess Elizabeth Nikolaevna, and Princess Tatiana Nikolaevna.

His Role in the Romanov Family

Even though the Romanovs no longer ruled Russia, many family members still felt a strong bond to their history. Nicholas Romanov played an important role in keeping the family connected. As President of the Romanov Family Association, he helped organize meetings and activities for the descendants of the Imperial House.

His time as the head of the Romanov family, according to his supporters, lasted from 21 April 1992 until his death on 15 September 2014. After his passing, his brother, Prince Dimitri Romanovich, became the next person recognized by some as the head of the family.
