Nicole Nieves was born on October 6, 1989. She is an amazing American sitting volleyball player. Nicky, as she is often called, plays for the United States women's national sitting volleyball team. She has won many important medals with her team. These include two gold medals at the Parapan American Games. She also earned a gold medal at the Summer Paralympics. Plus, she has won three medals at the World Para Volleyball Championships.

Nicky's Early Life and Education

Nicky Nieves was born in The Bronx, a part of New York City. She was born on October 6, 1989. Nicky was born without her left hand. She went to Queens College, City University of New York. There, she studied speech pathology. This field helps people with speaking difficulties.

Nicky's Volleyball Career

Nicky Nieves started playing sitting volleyball at a high level. She first competed at the World Para Volleyball Championship in June 2014. In one match against China, Nicky and her teammate Kaleo Kanahele Maclay each scored 7 points. Team USA won that exciting match. Her team also earned a silver medal at this tournament. This was her very first medal at a World Championship.

More World Championship Success

Nicky was called to play in the 2018 World Championship too. She helped her team win another silver medal in 2018. She competed again at the World Championship in 2022. At that event, she and her team won a bronze medal.

Parapan American Games Achievements

Nicky Nieves has also proudly represented the United States at the Parapan American Games. Her first time was at the 2015 games in Toronto. There, she helped her team win a gold medal. She played again at the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima. Once more, she and her team won a gold medal.

Paralympic Games Highlights

Nicky Nieves represented the United States at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. She played sitting volleyball and won a gold medal with her team. This was a huge achievement!

After an eight-year break, Nicky was chosen again for Team USA. She competed at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris. She was also given a special honor at the opening ceremony. Nicky served as one of two flag bearers for Team USA. She shared this role with wheelchair basketball player Steve Serio.
