Exploring Nico Pérez
Location and Surroundings
Nico Pérez is very close to another town called José Batlle y Ordóñez. A main road, Ruta 7, and some railroad tracks separate these two places. A bridge connects them, making it easy to travel between the two parts.
A Look at History
The area where Nico Pérez is today was first known as "Nico Pérez." It was officially recognized as a village on April 10, 1896. Later, on March 19, 1907, the entire area was renamed "José Batlle y Ordóñez." This change happened because of a law passed by the government.
However, the part of the village that is in the Florida Department kept its original name, Nico Pérez. On October 14, 1955, this part of the village was officially given the higher status of a "Pueblo," which means a larger town.
