Osborne Earl "Nikko" Smith Jr. (born April 28, 1982) is an American singer and songwriter. He became well-known after appearing on the TV show American Idol in 2005. He finished in ninth place during the show's fourth season.
Nikko Smith's Life and Music
Nikko Smith is the son of famous baseball player Ozzie Smith, who is in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Nikko is currently working on a new music album called The Revolution.
In 2006, Nikko had a special performance. He sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" before a big baseball game. This was Game 4 of the 2006 World Series in St. Louis. His father, Ozzie Smith, played for the St. Louis Cardinals for 15 seasons.
His Journey on American Idol
Nikko Smith tried out for American Idol in 2005. He sang "All I Do" by Stevie Wonder for his audition. He made it through several rounds of the competition.
However, Nikko was voted off the show on March 9, along with another contestant. Just a few days later, something surprising happened! The show's producers called him. They asked him to come back to the competition. Another contestant, Mario Vazquez, had left for "family reasons."
When Nikko returned, judge Paula Abdul gave him a nickname: "The Comeback Kid." This happened after he sang "One Hand, One Heart." Even after his big comeback, Nikko was voted off the show again that same week. He finished in ninth place overall.
