Life and Music Career
How His Journey Began
Nikos Oikonomopoulos was born in the city of Patra, Greece. He grew up in a nearby town called Kato Achaia. From a young age, he loved to sing.
Before becoming a famous musician, he worked several different jobs, including fishing and working at a pizzeria. He started his singing career by performing in different cities around Greece. In December 2006, his big break came when he won the TV talent competition Dream Show – The Music 2.
Becoming a Star (2007–2010)
After winning the show, Nikos released his first album, Proti Agapi (which means First Love), in November 2007. It had many popular songs, including "Ola Gia Sena" ("Everything For You") and "Koita Na Mathaineis" ("Look To Learn").
In 2008, he won the "Best New Artist" award at the MAD Video Music Awards, a major Greek music awards show. Later that year, he released his second album, Akousa… (I Heard). It was very successful and became a "gold" album, which means it sold a large number of copies.
His success continued, and in 2009, his album Katathesi Psihis (Testimony of my Soul) was released. This album was even more popular and went "platinum," a certification for selling even more copies than a gold album.
On December 3, 2010, Nikos released his fourth album, Doro Gia Sena (A Present For You). It was an instant hit and was certified platinum in its first week. It later became triple platinum, showing just how popular it was.
Continued Success (2011–2013)
In December 2011, Nikos released the album Tha Eimai Edo (I Will Be Here). It included hit songs like "Kai Ti Egine" ("So What") and "Kali Kardia" ("Good Heart"). The album was certified double platinum. By September 2012, it had reached four times platinum status, meaning it was a massive success.
He followed this with the album Ennoeitai (It's Understood) in 2012, which also went double platinum.
On December 6, 2013, he released another successful album called Eilikrina (Sincerely). It featured popular tracks like "Exaitias Sou" ("Because of You") and "Mi Figeis Tora" ("Don't Leave Now"). This album also quickly went double platinum.
Recent Music (2014–Present)
Nikos continued to release hit music. On November 17, 2014, his eighth album, Gia Hilious Logous (For a Thousand Reasons), came out. It was certified four times platinum in Greece.
In 2015, he released the album Ena Mikrofono Ki Ego (One Microphone and I), which also sold many copies and went multi-platinum.
One of his biggest hits, "Gia Kapoio Logo" ("For Some Reason"), was released in 2017. It became one of the most-watched Greek music videos ever on YouTube. This song was part of his album 10, released in December 2017.
