About Nimravides
What Was Nimravides?
Even though its name sounds like "Nimravid," Nimravides was not part of the Nimravidae family. Instead, it belonged to the Felidae family. This is the same family that includes all modern cats, like lions, tigers, and your pet cat! Nimravides was a true cat, just a very old and extinct one.
Different Kinds of Nimravides
Scientists have found different species of Nimravides. The older types were usually smaller. They also had more basic features compared to the later ones. One well-known species was Nimravides catacopsis. This cat was as big as a modern tiger! It looked a bit like an early saber-toothed cat called Machairodus aphanistus. That species lived in places like Europe and Asia.
