The North-East District is an important part of Botswana, a country in Southern Africa. Think of it like a big county or region within a country. This district is known for its main city, Francistown, which is also its capital. The capital is the most important city in a region, often where the government offices are.

Where is the North-East District?
This district is located, as its name suggests, in the northeastern part of Botswana. It shares borders with other districts in Botswana and even with Zimbabwe to the east. The district covers an area of about 5,120 square kilometers. That's roughly the size of a small country!
How is the District Organized?
The North-East District is divided into smaller areas called sub-districts. These help manage the different parts of the region more easily. There are two main sub-districts:
- The Francistown Subdistrict
- The North-East Subdistrict
In 2011, a count of the people and places (called a census) showed that there were 43 villages located across the entire district. These villages are home to many people who live and work in the area.
People and Life in the District
The North-East District is home to many people. In 2013, about 167,500 people lived here. Most people in Botswana speak Setswana, which is the national language. English is also widely spoken, especially in cities like Francistown.
Life in the district combines modern city living in Francistown with more traditional village life in the smaller settlements. People work in various jobs, including mining, farming, and services.
What's the Climate Like?
Botswana generally has a semi-arid climate, which means it's often dry. The North-East District experiences hot summers and mild winters. Most of the rain falls during the summer months, usually between November and March. This rainfall is very important for farming and for the plants and animals that live there.
