How it Started: A Look at NCDPI's History
The idea for a State Superintendent was created in 1868. This happened when the North Carolina Constitution was written. A constitution is like a rulebook for a state or country. It sets up how the government works.
Helping Schools with HR: The HRMS System
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction also uses a special computer system. It is called the Human Resource Management System (HRMS). The North Carolina State Board of Education helps watch over this system.
What is HRMS?
HRMS helps schools manage their staff. It helps with things like hiring new teachers and school workers. It also helps with employee benefits and keeping track of how well staff are doing.
How HRMS Was Built
Back in the year 2000, people started working on a new HRMS. Their goal was to replace older computer programs. These old programs were sometimes called "green screen" software. They wanted a new system that worked on the internet. This new system is called a web-based system.
Work on the new system began in October 2000. The first part of it was ready in the fall of 2002. They are still working to update all parts of the old system. Now, any new features needed by state or federal laws are added only to the new HRMS web system. This makes sure schools have the best tools to manage their teams.
