The Odd Fellows Block is a historic building in Grand Forks, North Dakota. It was built in 1888. You can find it in the Downtown Grand Forks Historic District.
This building was originally a meeting place for the Odd Fellows. This was a friendly social group. Their main meeting hall was on the third floor. It had a large room, a banquet hall, and many smaller rooms.
A Look at the Odd Fellows Block
The Odd Fellows Block is a very special building. It is one of only two buildings left in Grand Forks with a unique style. This style is called Richardsonian Romanesque. It was named after a famous architect, Henry Hobson Richardson.
What Makes It Special?
This building style uses strong, heavy stone and brick. It often has round arches and towers. The Odd Fellows Block has cream-colored brick towers. These towers frame parts of the building made of red brick.
You can also see stone details and cool brick designs. On the roof, there is a large skylight. It used to let light into the meeting hall below. The apartments on the second floor were also built at the same time.
A Hub for Community Groups
The Odd Fellows Block was very important to Grand Forks. It was a busy place for social life in the late 1800s. Many different groups met there.
Three different Odd Fellows groups used the building. The Daughters of Rebekah also met there. They were a women's group connected to the Odd Fellows.
