Oge Mora is a talented author and illustrator of children's books. She lives in Providence, Rhode Island. In 2019, she won several important awards for her book, Thank You, Omu!. These awards include a Caldecott Honor, the Coretta Scott King John Steptoe Award for New Talent, and the Ezra Jack Keats Book Award.

Becoming an Artist

Oge Mora's parents moved from Nigeria to Columbus, Ohio. Oge later attended the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). This is a famous art and design school.

While at RISD, she took a class called "Picture and Word." For her final project, she created a special kind of book. It was a mock-up of a picture book called Omu's Stew.

Her teacher invited editors and art directors to see the students' work. A publisher called Little, Brown and Company really liked Oge's book idea. They decided to publish it! That book became Thank You, Omu!.

Her Unique Art Style

Oge Mora creates her beautiful illustrations using a mix of materials. She often uses cut paper, which means she cuts shapes and figures out of different papers. She also uses paint and china markers. This gives her artwork a special and colorful look.
