Early Life and Education
Olaf Rose was born in Arnsberg, a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. When he was old enough, he chose to do civilian service instead of military service. This is a choice some people make to serve their country in non-military ways.
He went on to study German and history at the Ruhr University Bochum. In 1992, he earned a special degree called a doctorate in military history. He received this degree from the Helmut Schmidt University of the Bundeswehr, which is a university for the German armed forces. His main research for this degree was about a famous military thinker named Carl von Clausewitz and how his ideas influenced Russia and the Soviet Union.
Before becoming a politician, Olaf Rose worked as an archivist for the local government in Herdecke from 1987 to 1996. An archivist is someone who takes care of important historical documents and records. He also wrote books and articles about the history of local areas.
