Darwinia oldfieldii, also known as Oldfield's darwinia, is a special plant. It belongs to the myrtle family. This plant is found only in Western Australia. When a plant or animal lives only in one place, it is called endemic.

What is Oldfield's Darwinia?
Oldfield's darwinia is a type of shrub. It grows upright and can spread out. It usually reaches a height of about 0.15 to 0.5 meters (0.5 to 1.6 feet). Sometimes, it can grow as tall as 1 meter (3.3 feet).
Flowers and Blooming Season
This plant has beautiful red flowers. They bloom during the spring and early summer months. You can see its flowers between August and November.
Where Does It Live?
Oldfield's darwinia grows in the Mid West region of Western Australia. It likes sandy soils. You can often find it on rocky ledges. It also grows on sandplains. This area is along the coast, just north of Geraldton.
How Was It Discovered?
The first official description of Oldfield's darwinia was in 1865. A scientist named George Bentham described it. His description was published in a science journal in 1867. The plant sample he used was collected by Augustus Oldfield. He found it near the Murchison River.
