Olga Martín-Belloso (born on July 8, 1960) is a Spanish food scientist and a Professor at the University of Lleida. She is a very important person in the world of food science. She was the first Spanish woman to join a big international group called the International Union of Food Science and Technology. She also leads the European Federation of Food Science and Technology. Early Life and Education
Olga Martín-Belloso grew up in a town called Calahorra in Spain. She finished high school in 1976. After that, she went to the University of Zaragoza to study chemical sciences. This means she learned all about how different chemicals work and react.
She earned her first degree in 1982. Later, she continued her studies and received her PhD in 1991 from the same university. For her PhD research, she worked at a special center that studies canned vegetables in San Adrián.
Amazing Food Science Work
Professor Martín-Belloso became a professor at the University of Lleida in 1992. She is now in charge of the Food Technology Department there. Her main interest is finding new ways to keep food safe and fresh for longer.
Keeping Food Fresh
One of her big research areas is using something called "pulsed electric fields" for food preservation. Imagine sending quick, strong bursts of electricity through food. This method can kill tiny germs without using a lot of heat. It helps food stay fresh and tasty for a longer time.
She also studies special coatings for food. These are like invisible wraps that can be put on food. These coatings can have "active ingredients" inside them. Professor Martín-Belloso is a leader in food science. In 2016, she became the first Spanish woman to join the International Union of Food Science and Technology. This is a huge international group for food scientists.
She also helps guide students as the Director of the Doctoral School at the University of Lleida. She is like an ambassador for Spain in a group called the Global Harmonization Task Force.
