Olivia Goldsmith (born January 1, 1949 – died January 15, 2004) was an American writer. She became famous for her first novel, The First Wives Club, published in 1992. This popular book was later made into a movie in 1996, also called The First Wives Club.
About Olivia Goldsmith
Olivia Goldsmith was born Randy Goldfield in Dumont, New Jersey. She later changed her name several times. First, she became Justine Goldfield, and then Justine Rendal. She decided to become a writer after her divorce. She felt like she had lost a lot, and writing became her new path.
Before becoming a novelist, Olivia Goldsmith went to New York University. She also worked as a partner at a company called Booz Allen Hamilton in New York. Besides her adult novels, she also wrote several books for children. These children's books were published under the name Justine Rendal.
Her Final Years
Olivia Goldsmith passed away in 2004. Her death was due to complications from a medical procedure. Even after she died, two more of her books were published. A song called "Edith Wharton's Figurines" by the singer Suzanne Vega is dedicated to Olivia Goldsmith.
