Omari Akil Newton is a Canadian actor known for his roles in popular TV shows like Blue Mountain State and Continuum. He is also a talented voice actor, writer, and co-founder of a theater company called Boldskool Productions.

From Sports to the Stage
Omari Newton grew up in Montreal, Canada. His parents had moved to Canada from the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. In high school, Omari was very athletic. He was the co-captain of the basketball team and a starter for his local football team.
Even though he loved sports, Omari also had a passion for acting and joined the school's drama clubs. He decided to become a professional actor and studied drama at Concordia University. He later attended the famous National Theatre School of Canada to improve his skills.
Acting Career
Early Work
When Omari was just 19, he landed a lead role in a play with the Black Theatre Workshop in Montreal. He continued to act in plays for several years before moving to Vancouver. There, he performed in famous plays like Romeo & Juliet and The Oresteia.
In 2001, Omari got his first big television role on the show Vampire High. He played a character named Dalton Nemers. It was his first major part on TV, and he later said he really enjoyed his time on the set.
Famous Roles
From 2010 to 2011, Omari played Larry Summers in the comedy series Blue Mountain State. The show was about a fictional university's football team. This was Omari's first time as a regular character on a TV series.
From 2012 to 2015, he starred as the tech genius Lucas Ingram in the science-fiction show Continuum.
Writing for the Stage
Besides acting, Omari is also a writer. He wrote a play called Sal Capone: The Lamentable Tragedy Of. The play was inspired by real-life events and deals with important social issues.
His work on this play led him to start a theater company called Boldskool Productions with director Diane Roberts. Their company focuses on creating plays that use hip-hop to tell powerful stories.
