One Day International facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

A One Day International (often called an ODI) is a type of cricket game. It's a shorter version of the sport, played between two national teams that have special "one-day status." These games are usually completed in a single day.

The very first One Day International match was played in 1971. It was an exciting game between the national teams of Australia and England.

How ODIs Are Played

In an ODI match, each team gets to bat once. This is called an "innings." Each innings has a limit of 50 overs. An over is a set of six balls bowled by one player.

In the past, ODI matches used to be a bit longer, with each team batting for 60 overs. But over time, the game changed to the 50-over format we see today. This makes the games faster and often more exciting!
