One of the Family is a novel written by Monica Dickens in 1993. Monica Dickens was the great-granddaughter of the famous author Charles Dickens. This book was the last one she ever wrote.
The story takes place in London during the Edwardian era. This was a time in history from 1901 to 1910, when King Edward VII ruled England. It was a period of big changes, much like the changes happening in the life of the main character, Leonard Morley.
The Story Begins
The story starts with Leonard Morley receiving a mysterious and unpleasant note. As time goes on, more of these notes appear. When he gets the fourth one, Leonard decides he must tell his manager, William Whiteley.
A Strange Event
Before Leonard can talk to Mr. Whiteley, something very sad happens. Mr. Whiteley suddenly meets a tragic end. This event shocks everyone and makes the mystery of the notes even more serious.
Solving the Mystery
After a careful investigation, a person named Horace Rayner is found to be involved in Mr. Whiteley's tragic end. Leonard Morley helps by sharing what he knows about the situation. In the end, Horace Rayner is held responsible for what happened.
