The Story of Ooni
Ooni was started in 2012 by a husband-and-wife team, Kristian Tapaninaho and Darina Garland. Kristian, who is from Finland, invented a new kind of oven. It was the world's first portable and affordable wood-fired oven. This oven could cook pizzas and other foods that need very high heat, up to 500 degrees Celsius (932 degrees Fahrenheit).
Ooni has won several awards for its clever inventions. One of these was the Retailers’ Choice Award at Glee Birmingham in 2015.

In 2020, Ooni started adding numbers to the end of their oven names. These numbers tell you the size of pizza that each oven can cook. For example, Ooni Koda 16 can cook a 16-inch pizza.

On July 17, 2018, the company officially changed its name from Uuni to Ooni. The word 'Uuni' means 'oven' in the Finnish language. The founders decided to change the name to make it easier for people around the world to say and remember.
