The Oriental Apartments is a cool old building in Portland, Oregon. It's a two-story apartment building that's so special, it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical place in the United States. The building was finished in 1926. It was designed in a style called Tudor Revival. It officially became a historic place in 1992.

Building History and Design

A builder named Curtis A. Gardner constructed the Oriental Apartments. He built it for C.E. Beeman, who was a real estate developer. The building is quite large, about 12,165 square feet.

Inside, there are 13 studio apartments. These are small apartments with one main room. There are also three one-bedroom apartments. All the studio apartments have the same layout. The one-bedroom apartments also share a similar design.

Each floor has eight apartments. They are set up on both sides of a long hallway. This hallway runs through the middle of the building.

Special Features

The Oriental Apartments has many interesting details. The outside walls are covered in brick. This is called brick cladding. You can also see special parts like gables. These are the triangular parts of the roof. There are also decorative panels called spandrels.

The main entrance has a cool round arch. Inside the apartments, you might find Murphy-bed closets. These are beds that fold up into the wall. This helps save space. There are also special cupboards in the kitchens. These cupboards have leaded-glass designs. They help separate the eating area from where food is prepared.
